Shakespeare's Influence on Mark Hearld and Jonny Hannah

Shakespeare coined the phrases salad days in Anthony and Cleopatra and cakes and ale in Twelfth Night and illustrators Mark Hearld and Jonny Hannah have kept them alive...

Mark Hearld studied Illustration at Glasgow School of Art from 1994-97 and went on to the Royal College of Art to study for an MA in Natural History Illustration. Taking his inspiration from the flora and fauna of the British countryside, Mark works across a number of mediums, producing limited edition lithographic and linocut prints, unique paintings and collages. Salad Days (below) shows two carefree rabbits enjoying an abundance of fresh food.

Born & bred in Dumfermline, Jonny studied illustration at the Cowdenbeath College of Knowledge, Liverpool Art School & then the Royal College of Art. Any spare minute is spent working on new projects for his own Cakes & Ale Press. It is under the moniker of the Cakes & Ale Press, a highly successful cottage industry, that Jonny has industriously published his limited edition affordable prints and artists books.
